What Gear Does Luke Like?
Need some welding gear but not sure what to get? Down below I have attached my gear selection that I have personally used welding professionally over the years and certain items I recommend!
Black Stallion Revco Leather Cowhide MIG Welding Gloves
Hands down my favorite Mig welding gloves! I’ve tried dozens of other brands and gloves and they always felt bulky and didn’t fit me right. These fit me perfectly and I love them!
Wendy's Pancake Welding Hood Helmet w/Strap - Right Handed
If you weld outside at all, I highly recommend this pancake hood! I can see exactly what I’m doing because there is no reflection on my lens that hinders my view. Unlike traditional welding hoods where the viewing area is open and any light coming in from behind you reflects off your lens and makes it harder to see your weld. Not to mention this hood is way lighter than traditional hoods! I absolutely love the pancake for all outside welding projects, and I honestly like it for inside projects too! - Disclaimer: Will need to purchase 2x4 auto-darkening lens because it doesn’t come with one unfortunately.
Revco Black Stallion Hybrid Fr and Cowhide Welding Coat
An absolute necessity! Not everything that your welding is easily accessible. Comfort is everything when you’re welding and these knee pads have saved my knees so many times, I lost count! Love these things!
Tillman Top Grain Goatskin TIG Glove
Awesome Tig welding gloves! Can’t go wrong with Tillman’s as they have been in the industry for decades. These gloves fit me great, and I highly recommend!
Low Budget Hood Option:
YESWELDER Large View Auto Darkening Welding Helmet
Sometimes I like to just throw on a pair of sleeves and go. These Hobart welding sleeves are a great option as they are comfortable to wear, easy to clean, and convenient to use. Highly recommend!
TOZO T6 Wireless Earbuds
When I get rained on by heavy 6010 balls of fire, I like to put on a little extra protection. This Black Stallion hybrid jacket is my go-to for heavy spark protection. I like the hybrid because it is lighter, not as bulky, and more comfortable than the really heavy 100% cowhide jackets. Great jacket and highly recommend!
There’s nothing better than vibing to your favorite tunes while welding! I’ve tried so many different style and brand earbuds and these are the ones I love! They’re inexpensive and have great quality audio. They are also a super comfortable fitting earbud for all day use. Highly recommend!
3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator
Great high quality yet affordable welding hood! Not only does it look sick, but it performs great and doesn’t flash me. I personally love the bigger viewing area and the quick access dials. Overall, a solid and more budget friendly choice if you're in the market for a new hood!
Revco BSX Fr Welding Jacket
Hobart Flame Retardant Welding Sleeves
Gotta protect yourself! For those long welding sessions and especially welding metal that has been galvanized, painted or has other nasty coatings on it, having a respirator is a must. This 3m half mask respirator fits perfectly under a welding hood and it fits my face perfectly for a good seal and all-day comfort!
High End Hood Option:
Miller Digital Elite Auto Darkening Welding Helmet
This was always my dream hood and amazon ran a major sale on it so I couldn’t resist. Since it’s a higher end hood, it does have some features that are not available in cheaper hoods like half shades, auto sensitivity, and Miller’s Clearlight lens technology. And Miller has a warranty for this too which is nice. Overall, great hood with no complaints if you're in the market for a higher end hood!
Bollé Safety Tracker Safety Glasses
Upgrade your safety glasses! I’ve gotten so many pieces of metal in my eyes over the years even when wearing regular safety glasses! These are more of a goggle fit so there’s no chance a stray spark could reach your eye! For heavy grinding and cutting, these are my go-to!
NoCry Professional Construction Knee Pads
For heavy grinding situations, I always grab a face shield and pair it with safety glasses to get maximum protection. I’ve learned to do that after getting too many pieces of metal in my eyes over the years. Pair this with my recommended safety glasses to get maximum protection!
Love this welding jacket! It’s not super heavy like other cowhide jackets but keeps me protected even when getting rained on with heavy sparks. It also fits me well and is very comfortable to wear. Highly recommend!
