Frequent Flux-Core Issues

🔥Flux-Core Troubleshooting Guide

📋 Problem: Excessive Spatter

  • Is the voltage too high?
  • Stick out too far?
  • Is polarity correct?
🔧 Fix: Lower voltage slightly, shorten arc length, make sure leads are hooked up right (DCEN - ground on positive and electrode negative. This is opposite from MIG solid wire welding so make sure to do this when running flux-core wire).

📋 Problem: Burn-Through

  • Are your settings too hot?
  • Is travel speed too slow?
🔧 Fix: Turn down settings, move steadily, avoid stopping in one spot.

📋 Problem: Inconsistent Bead

  • Are you maintaining a consistent pull angle?
  • Is your travel speed consistent and steady?
  • Are your settings hot enough?
🔧 Fix: Keep a consistent pull angle, make sure travel speed is steady and consistent, try cranking up the settings to run hotter so puddle is more fluid and fuses into material better.
